Hi

Été bleu-blanc-rouge

2018

In the summer of 2018 I captured the craziness and street life in Paris after the World Cup victory. For a day, I followed the evolution of this fleeting moment of joy. I chose black and white to focus on emotions and neutralize the colours of the flag.
Black and white robs photos of part of their context, makes them more ambiguous. What are we witnessing? What's really going on? What are these people doing on the street?
I only developed the negatives in November 2018, at the beginning of the “gilets jaunes” protest movement in  France and these photos seemed to respond to the images I saw in the news. These two moments, so different in their respective motivations, suddenly seemed similar.
